It offers non-stop scheduled flights to destinations across Europe, North America, the Caribbean, Middle East and Far East. It officially opened on 25 June 1938, and was initially known as Ringway Airport.

During World War II it officially became RAF Ringway, and from 1975 until 1986 the title Manchester International Airport was used.

Bus - Stagecoach 43 operates every 10 minutes between the airport and Manchester city centre. Trent Bus 199 will take you to Stockport and Buxton.
Rail - During the day trains depart every ten minutes into the city centre and up to four trains every hour during the night. Trains run to Manchester Piccadilly rail station and the journey takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes. There are direct, night service trains to and from Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Huddersfield, Bolton, Preston and Blackpool.
Road - The airport is served by taxi, bus and coach.

The airport is off junction 5 of the M56 motorway, which connects with the M60, Manchester?s ring road, at junction 4. Directions to all the terminals is signposted with colour cubes.
The Skylink moving walkway system links Terminals 1, 2 and 3 via the airport railway station.
