Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

Henry VIII built one of the finest gardens in the world at Hampton Court Palace, so it is only fitting that the world's largest horticultural show should take place there.

The show includes displays from over 150 specialist nurseries. Some are beautiful, complex works of living art, filled with rare blooms and water features. However, many are on a smaller, more English scale, and should give you ideas for improving your own garden. Hanging garden and windowbox competitions show just what you can achieve in the tiniest areas. Durning the final afternoon many of the exhibitors sell off their plants at bargain prices.

Of course, one effect of this is to make you feel like the most pathetic gardener in the world, but if you get frustrated by your own limits there is always the breathtaking display of roses and the magnificent surroundings to calm you down - a perfect mixture of the beautiful and the practical.
