Story of Berlin

About

This multimedia extravaganza portrays 8 centuries of the city's history through photos, films, sounds, and colorful displays. Beginning with the founding of Berlin in 1237, it chronicles the plague, the Thirty Years' War, Frederick the Great's reign, military life, the Industrial Revolution and the working poor, the Golden 1920s, World War II, divided Berlin during the Cold War, and the fall of the Wall. Lights flash in a media blitz as you enter the display on the fall of the Wall, making you feel like one of the first East Berliners to wonderingly cross to the West.

History

Unlike most German museums, where the “Please do not touch” sign reigns, the philosophy of this journey through Berlin’s history could be “Touch everything”. Expect more than a few tourists as you make your way through this rambling, unusual museum, in which hundreds of years of history are presented in a multi-media, multi-sensory atmosphere (ideal for the short-attention span). Everything is written in both German and English, and tours are available in 12 languages.
